TEFA Makes Christian Education More Accessible for Psalm 127 School Families

Big changes are coming to education in Texas, and they bring new opportunities for families who want a Christ-centered education for their children. Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, the Texas Education Freedom Account (TEFA) program will officially launch—opening the door for families to receive state funds they can use toward private Christian schooling.

At Psalm 127 School, we believe parents are the primary educators of their children, and programs like TEFA help families choose an educational path that aligns with their faith, values, and long-term goals. If you’ve dreamed of giving your children a Bible-centered education but were concerned about affordability, TEFA may be a major blessing for your family.

What Is TEFA?

TEFA (Texas Education Freedom Account) is a state-funded program created by Senate Bill 2, administered by the Texas Comptroller’s Office. Its purpose is simple:
Give parents the freedom to choose the school that best fits their child.

When it opens, eligible families will receive annual funding through a secure “digital wallet” managed by the state’s selected partner (Odyssey). Families can then use these funds to pay for approved educational expenses—including private school tuition.

How Much Funding Can Families Receive?

TEFA offers generous support, with amounts depending on each student’s needs:

  • Approximately $10,800 per year for most students

  • Up to $30,000 per year for students with disabilities

  • Funds can roll over year to year if unused

  • Money can be applied directly toward tuition at eligible private schools

Psalm 127 School intends to participate in TEFA so families can apply these funds toward their children’s education here.

What Can TEFA Funds Be Used For?

TEFA covers a wide range of educational expenses, including:

  • Private school tuition & fees

  • Textbooks and instructional materials

  • School uniforms

  • Tutoring, assessments, and therapies

  • Technology and software (with pre-approval)

For many families, TEFA will significantly reduce—or even eliminate—their out-of-pocket tuition costs.

Psalm 127 School and TEFA

Psalm 127 School plans to opt in as a TEFA-eligible institution. This means:

  • Families can apply TEFA funds toward tuition.

  • We will follow all TEFA requirements, including norm-referenced assessments like the STAR test.

  • If TEFA funds don’t cover the full cost, families can apply for additional school financial aid.

Our mission has always been to make Christian education more accessible, and TEFA allows us to walk even further down that path.

When Can Families Apply?

The TEFA program is expected to:

  • Open family applications in early 2026

  • Begin distributing funds for the 2026–2027 school year

Applications will be reviewed by the Texas Comptroller, and if demand exceeds available funding, a lottery system may be used—with priority for students with disabilities and siblings of current TEFA participants.

Why TEFA Matters

The world is shifting rapidly, and Christian families are seeking educational environments that support—not undermine—their faith. TEFA creates a new pathway for parents who want:

  • A school grounded in biblical truth

  • A safe, Christ-centered learning environment

  • Academic excellence with discipleship at the core

  • A community that honors parents as the God-given leaders of their home

At Psalm 127 School, we are committed to serving families with integrity, transparency, and a mission rooted in Scripture. TEFA is one more way we can partner with families as they raise children who love God and pursue truth.
